  Asparagus is a green vegetable, some of the veggies you can grow in your garden or balcony, it is also known as garden asparagus. It is conventionally called Sparrow grass. It has a  complete life cycle of more than two years: it is a perennial plant. According to binomial nomenclature, its scientific name is Asparagus officinalis. 

Asparagus is a rich and healthy vegetable. It contains essential minerals and vitamins for humans and ducks.

 Asparagus is suitable for different species of ducks: the popular Mallards, Stiff tails, Perching Ducks, Dabbling Ducks, Whistling Ducks, Scoters, Diving Ducks,Mergancer, Sea Ducks, Eider, Goldeneye, Teal, Bali Ducks, Perky Ducks, Saxony Ducks, Domestic Ducks, ...etc

It is necessary to take good care of your Ducks ensure they have enough water, to avoid dehydration, clean environment, ensure your ducks breeding place is free from flies and larvae of infected flies. Mycotoxins and flies are harmful and lethal to their health. Infected fly - larvae can cause Limberneck, a rare disease. The popular saying: "you are what you eat" is not just true to humans but also to animals. The right food is necessary for healthy growth and development of your Ducks. Asparagus is one.

Asparagus is one meal that wouldn't break your bank. It is quite affordable so when next you are doing grocery shopping feel free to include it to your cart. Ducks can eat all parts of Asparagus, it is healthy and can be preserved properly in a fridge or jar of water. Change the water if you notice a bad smell or colour. Canned Asparagus is not recommended for your Duck because of its preservative, salt and sugar content. Avoid pickled Asparagus and feeding your Ducks too much to eat. Asparagus can affect the taste of your eggs if it is given in excess. Some people don't mind though.

Healthy  nutrients always will result in your Ducks being healthy. Do not feed your Ducks pickled, mouldy, stale and rotten  Asparagus.

HOW CAN I PREPARE ASPARAGUS MEAL FOR MY DUCKS?

You can chop the Asparagus with a knife in bits so your Ducks can easily eat it bit by bit.  Asparagus can be combined with Salads, Omelets, Broccoli, Nuts, Kale, Ice-cream, smoothie, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Oats. Asparagus can also be cooked but avoid steaming for a long time so as to retain it's nutrient, it can be toasted or lightly salted. Avoid using oil or butter. Just like carrot and other veggies, you can cut the bottom part. The bottom part is quite hard to chew and with no nutrient. Frozen Asparagus too is not suitable for feeding your Ducks as it is too hard to chew. Do not add Vinegar to your Ducks diets, its acidic content can cause Acid Reflux. Asparagus is a great meal/ treat for all species of Ducks.

ASPARAGUS AND YOUR DUCKS HEALTH.

Asparagus can be included to your Ducks daily diet, it is preferable to include it in their meal early as your Ducks grow and develop. If your Ducks seem not to like Asparagus you can mix it with other meals with time your Ducks will enjoy it and love to eat when your Ducks have learnt to eat the meal.

Asparagus contains essential vitamins such as Vitamin B12, Vitamin K and Vitamin K2. It helps in blood clothing, strong and healthy bones, it enriches your Ducks immunity and helps fight and prevent infectious diseases. It  contains protein which helps in repair of worn-out tissues, Calcium which enriches bones and muscles. It contains Polyphenols, an antioxidants found when cooking Asparagus. The roots and seeds of Asparagus plants are medically proven to treat diseases and infection. In humans it helps to treat Untinary Tracts Infection. Except when recommended by your Veterinary Doctor, Ducks can eat Asparagus when ill. Just ensure it is in the right quantity and not excess. Its nutritional content helps boost your Duck's immunity.

Asparagus africanus Lam a type of Asparagus helps increase body function, in humans it is useful to treat aches, gonorrhea, ...etc. Species of  Asparagus such as Asparagus laricinus Burch, Asparagus africanus Lam, Asparagus officinalis L, Asparagus racemosus and Asparagus densiflorus (Kunth) Jessop are healthy for your Ducks.

EFFECTS OF SPOILT ASPARAGUS

You can know when the Asparagus you bought or grow at home is spoilt by observing , smelling or touching it. Quickly dispose Asparagus when it looks too dry, weak, wrinkling, has a bad smell, changes it's colour, moldy and has been in contact with harmful chemicals. Spoilt Asparagus cause diseases, infections and in worse cases if diseases are not properly treated can cause death. You have to be really mindful of what your ducks eat.
